MOSCOW (AP) - Russia has reappointed a scandal-hit athletics coach to a senior position less than a month after he resigned amid several doping scandals.

Valentin Maslakov served as head coach of the Russian national team from 2007 until last month, when he stepped down shortly after doping bans were handed to three of Russia’s Olympic champion race-walkers.

The Russian athletics federation said Maslakov has now “been named the senior coach for sprinting,” a position one rank below his old job, in comments reported by the R-Sport agency.

Valentin Balakhnichev has said he will resign as the athletics federation president following the doping scandals, which include a World Anti-Doping Agency investigation into allegations of systematic and organized drug use by Russian athletes.
