PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Two men are detained in federal custody on charges they made methamphetamine inside their Cranston apartment.

U.S. Attorney Peter Neronha announced the charges against 33-year-old Nicholas Selser and 48-year-old Michael Fortes on Thursday.

Both men are charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine and other drug crimes.

Prosecutors say authorities searched the apartment in the Devan Manor housing complex on Wednesday and seized chemicals, supplies and items used to manufacture methamphetamine.

They say the manufacturing process is a dangerous process that can cause an explosion or fire, and the housing complex is densely populated with many elderly residents.

Selser’s attorney declined to comment. A message was left for Fortes’ public defender.
