LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge is warning residents to beware of possible scams following the winter storm that dumped snow, ice and sleet on the state.

Rutledge said Thursday that scam artists often target damaged neighborhoods with high-pressure sales tactics and demand up-front payments, then fail to do the work or leave the job incomplete.

Rutledge says residents with property damage should take care to hire a reputable contractor, get multiple estimates, get a written contract, never pay in advance and deal with insurance payments themselves.
