CLINTON, Okla. (AP) - The Custer County Sheriff’s Office says an escaped inmate has been recaptured.

Authorities say 27-year-old James Edward Weber was recaptured Wednesday while walking on a county road near Clinton after being spotted by a local resident who called law enforcement.

Weber escaped Tuesday following a church service at the jail. Officials say Weber was assigned to carry a box of Bibles to the minister’s vehicle under the supervision of jail staff, but once outside he ran from the jail.

Weber was being held on assault and battery, forgery, possession of stolen property and tampering with utilities charges.
