COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Get some exercise, learn about your well-being and even sample a food treat at a heart health event at the University of South Carolina.

Participants may learn how to take the first steps toward a healthy heart on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Russell House Ballroom on the Columbia campus. The event is free and open to the public.

Food samples of recipes taken from Patricia Moore-Pastides’ book, “Greek Revival: Cooking for Life,” are being made available.

There are also exercise demonstrations, free health screenings and information on heart healthy habits for people of every age.

American Heart Association representatives are available to help participants register for a March 21 Midlands Heart Walk that will form a team to represent the university.
