NEWARK, Del. (AP) - Officials say a fire has heavily damaged a cocoa processing plant in Newark.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office says the fire was reported about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at United Cocoa Processor Inc. in the Pencader Corporate Center. Crews from several fire companies battled the blaze.

No injuries were reported. Damage was estimated at $250,000.

The fire marshal’s office says the accidental blaze was caused by a malfunction in the exhaust system for the unit that roasts cocoa beans. The fire then ignited roofing materials.
