STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) - The Starkville Board of Aldermen has appointed Fire Marshall Mark McCurdy as interim fire chief.

Fire Chief Rodger Mann is retiring Sunday.

The Commercial Dispatch reports (https://bit.ly/1vj9Dwt) that McCurdy joined the force in 2003. He became a fire inspector in 2006 and was promoted one year later to fire marshal.

Aldermen voted 4-2 Tuesday to approve McCurdy’s appointment.

McCurdy will assume the interim position Feb. 27.

Mann joined the fire department as a volunteer in 1980 and was promoted to a full-time firefighter two years later. He became a fire inspector in 1993 and was assigned as fire marshal supervisor in 2003.

Mann was named interim chief in 2007 and the title was made permanent in 2008.
