LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) - A West Texas police officer has been charged with official oppression and prostitution after allegedly paying a woman for sex while off-duty.

Lubbock police Cpl. Dustin Wayne Hatley was on paid administrative leave Thursday.

The eight-year officer was arrested Tuesday. Jail records don’t list an attorney for Hatley, who’s free on $5,000 bond.

Lubbock police last week arrested a woman on charges related to alleged burglaries.

She told police that Hatley last month paid a female friend of hers to have sex with him. Authorities say the arrested woman then said Hatley told her not to tell and that she faced two warrants.

She told police she felt Hatley threatened her so she also had sex with him, feeling obligated due to the warrants and because he’s an officer.
