MORRIS, Ala. (AP) - Sheriff’s officials and police in the Jefferson County town of Morris are investigating after a man was found shot to death in his ransacked home.

Al.com reports (https://bit.ly/1Lhwble) that Morris police officers found the man Wednesday night, after responding to a report of a burglary at the home on Banks Street.

Jefferson County Chief Deputy Randy Christian says a woman told police she returned from a grocery store and found a table overturned and the house in disarray. Christian said police searched the home and found the woman’s husband, 40-year-old Michael Earl Reese, dead in the back of the kitchen.

Christian said there were no signs of forced entry into the home, and nothing was reported missing. Detectives have not recovered a weapon.

Morris about 18 miles north of Birmingham.
