EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - A Eugene man accused of beating his girlfriend’s children with a belt has pleaded guilty to criminal mistreatment.

The Register-Guard (https://is.gd/Uuu8xD ) says Anthony Hunter Jr. was released from jail after serving 45 days. He was sentenced to 36 months of probation and jail time served during a hearing on Wednesday.

Hunter told a Lane County Circuit Court judge that he has learned his lesson. Two assault charges were dismissed as part of Hunter’s plea deal.

Prosecutors say Hunter beat two children, ages 6 and 8, because they were making noise at about 6 a.m. on Jan. 4 while he was still sleeping.
