PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Police in Forest Grove, Oregon, say a man entered an elementary school classroom Thursday, grabbed a third grade boy, released the child as school staff intervened and ran off.

The 7-year-old boy was unhurt.

Capt. Mike Herb says police took the man into custody after Joseph Gale Elementary school staffers chased him into a nearby neighborhood and finally into the backyard of a residence in the community west of Portland.

Herb says police have determined the man had no known relationship with the boy or school staff. Detectives are trying to determine his motive.

The spokesman says 29-year-old Joshua Alan Brown was arrested for investigation of kidnapping, burglary, criminal mischief, trespassing and harassment. Herb describes the man as a transient sought on a parole violation arrest warrant.
