HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) - The National Weather Service says northeastern Alabama is in for more ice and snow.

Forecasters issued a winter storm warning Thursday for the state’s northeastern three counties including the Huntsville metro area. The weather service says the area could receive ice, snow and freezing rain from noon Friday through Saturday morning.

The warning says ice accumulations of more than a quarter-inch are possible north of a line from Huntsville to Fort Payne. That’s enough to break trees and snap power lines.

Lesser accumulations of around one-tenth of an inch of ice are predicted to the south and west, but damage is still possible.

Forecasters say any problems should remain north of metro Birmingham.

Multiple school systems in the Tennessee Valley are closing on Friday, and more could follow.
