PHOENIX (AP) - The Arizona Department of Public Safety says a motorist is hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after colliding with another vehicle on a city street after a four-mile freeway chase.

The DPS says its officer tried to pull over the vehicle for reckless driving on southbound Interstate 17 earlier Monday morning but ended the chase after the pursued vehicle reached speeds over 115 mph.

According to DPS, the pursued vehicle got off I-17 at Thomas Road, ran a red light and collided with the other vehicle. That vehicle’s driver suffered injuries described by DPS as serious but not life-threatening.

DPS said the driver of the pursued vehicle was ejected.

Identities weren’t released.
