PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority is detouring nine routes because of the winter storm battering the Northeast.

RIPTA said Monday that accumulating snow in some areas and unplowed snow on secondary roads make it difficult for its vehicles to travel safely.

Routes 18, 27, 34, 49, 55, 56, 58, 87 and 92 are being detoured.

RIPTA says it will restore service on those routes as conditions allow and advise riders of any other detours due to the storm.
