MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - A former state social worker has pleaded guilty to abusing her elderly and developmentally disabled brother.

Al.com reports (https://bit.ly/1z7c9RD ) 43-year-old Yolanda Genean Thurman pleaded guilty Monday to a county of elder abuse and neglect.

Authorities have said Thurman’s 74-year-old brother was found malnourished, covered in bed sores and lying in his own waste in May of 2013. The man requires constant care and Thurman was the man’s caregiver.

Mobile County District Attorney Ashley Rich says the man’s bed sores required skin grafts. Alabama Department of Human Resources officials say Thurman resigned from her position as a social service case worker in August of 2013 after roughly 10 years with the department.

Her sentencing is set for March 17.
