RYE, N.Y. (AP) - New York state police say two people were killed in a multivehicle crash on Interstate 95 in Rye.

The crash occurred in two stages Monday afternoon. Police say they were investigating a two-vehicle crash when a third vehicle lost control on the highway and hit the two vehicles from the first crash.

The victims’ names were not made public.

Northbound lanes of the highway were closed.

The cause was not immediately known. The crash occurred as snow and freezing rain hindered travel throughout the region.
