KODIAK, Alaska (AP) - Two Kodiak Island trails will receive upgrades with federal grant money.

The Kodiak Daily Mirror (https://is.gd/yKQ7ku) reports the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly approved a contract last week with the nonprofit Island Trails Network for the work to be done at the Saltery Cove and Portage Bay trails.

The grant received by the borough totals just more than $200,000. Borough manager Bud Cassidy says the money is part of the federal Coastal Impacts Assistance Program.

Cassidy says the money comes from oil and gas tax receipts and can be used for habitat improvements.

The Island Trails Network was the only entity to submit a bid for the project.
