CHICAGO (AP) - Bruce Rauner’s office says the Illinois governor has activated the State Incident Response Center after a winter storm dumped as much as 19 inches of snow on the northern tier of the state.

The National Weather Service says Chicago saw 19.3 inches of snow after the Sunday storm. Schools were canceled in Chicago and across the metro area on Monday. So were federal court proceedings in downtown Chicago. Airlines at Midway and O’Hare International Airport canceled nearly 1,000 flights on Monday.

Rauner’s office says he had a conference call about the storm on Sunday afternoon with state transportation, emergency management and law enforcement officials. He says officials are worried about forecast dropping temperatures as the storm moves out of the area.
