Twitter was swift to mock President Obama for raising his pinkie while drinking a beer on Monday after he invited NBC’s Savannah Guthrie from the “Today” show to the White House to taste some of his home brews.

“Chugging a beer with his pinkie raised, like a real american,” tweeted the New Yorker’s Caitlin Kelly.

Barack Obama just drank a beer on TV with his pinkie in the air. Watch the tape,” Schneider_CM/status/562003327446425600” target=”_blank”>tweeted Milwaukee Journal Sentinel columnist Christian Schneider.

The conservative blog Weasel Zippers dubbed the incident “Pinkie Gate.”

“He was drinking his home brew, honey ale, God save us,” they wrote.

Ms. Guthrie chatted with the president in the White House kitchen as he erroneously claimed that he’s the “first president since George Washington to make some booze in the White House.”

Twitter was quick to point out that George Washington never lived in the White House. The first president died in 1799, one year before construction on the White House was completed.

“As @koyote19 and others have pointed out, George Washington did not live in the White House, so how could he have brewed beer there? Uh, oh,” tweeted Newsday’s Neil Best.
