DAVIE, Fla. (AP) - Police say a 3-year-old South Florida boy shot and wounded his mother with a gun he found in the home.

Davie police Capt. Dale Engle said officers were called to the family’s home around 3:45 a.m. Monday. The unidentified woman was wounded in the leg and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Engle says her injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Investigators are looking into how the boy gained access to the weapon. The Department of Children and Families is also involved in the case.

No charges have been filed.
