SOUTHWICK, Mass. (AP) - Police have identified the man who died in a snowmobiling accident in Southwick over the weekend.

Authorities say 45-year-old Wayne Szczpanik, of Southwick, died Saturday night while snowmobiling night on the Congamond Lakes.

Police say Szczpanik and some friends were on the lakes and traveled through the tunnel between Middle and South ponds.

Fire Chief Richard Anderson tells The Westfield News that it appears if the victim tried a common maneuver by trying to hydroplane across the unfrozen water, but hit the culvert wall.

He was thrown off the sled and his friends found him unconscious

He was taken to Noble Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
