LAS VEGAS (AP) - Authorities say 28 motorists were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs during a Super Bowl weekend checkpoint at a busy intersection in southwest Las Vegas.

Las Vegas police said Monday that drivers of more than 1,500 vehicles were screened at the Sunday evening police roadblock on Blue Diamond Road.

Of those, 88 motorists were given sobriety tests at the scene. Sixty passed.

One person got a traffic ticket and one was issued a summons for possession of a controlled substance.

The checkpoint was staffed by Las Vegas police and officers from agencies including the Nevada Highway Patrol, Boulder City police, and Lincoln and Nye county sheriff’s offices.

Police say the aim is to reduce the number of drunk drivers on area roads.
