ATLANTA (AP) - Traffic is flowing again on a stretch of Atlanta freeway that was closed while authorities investigated a suspicious device.

Atlanta Police Department spokeswoman Elizabeth Espy says authorities on Monday found a tube-shaped object taped to the east side of a bridge spanning the downtown connector. The connector is a stretch of freeway where Interstates 75 and 85 meet in Atlanta.

Police eventually detonated the device, which charred a section of the bridge. Lanes in both directions were closed for about two hours and traffic backups extended to many surface streets. All lanes of the connector were reopened around 4:30 p.m.

Additional details on the device aren’t immediately available.
