AMARILLO, Texas (AP) - Troopers seized more than $33 million in drugs and cash during traffic stops last year in the Texas Panhandle.

The Texas Department of Public Safety on Monday announced results of the 219 traffic stops along Interstate 40 and elsewhere in the region including Amarillo.

Sgt. Bryan Witt says the traffic stops also led to the arrest of eight suspects.

The seizures included nearly 4,200 pounds of marijuana, 458 pounds of methamphetamine, 100 pounds of cocaine, 29 pounds of heroin, 27 pounds of hashish and more than $1.5 million.

DPS did not immediately have figures for similar 2013 traffic stops in the Texas Panhandle.
