SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - U.S. Sen. John Thune’s campaign says he has nearly $10 million cash-on-hand as he starts an election cycle in which he’s expected to run for a third term.

The Republican from South Dakota drew no opponent in 2010 after beating then-Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle in 2004 in a race that drew national attention and millions of dollars in advertising.

Thune’s campaign reports he had roughly $9.7 million in cash on hand at the end of 2014.

Thune is a member of Senate Republican leadership and also chairman of the Senate’s Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee.
