CORINTH, Miss. (AP) - Winter weather and icy roads are being blamed for a multiple wreck that left two people dead and a child injured.

According to Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman Ray Hall, two cars hit a patch of ice on U.S. Highway 72 around 1:30 p.m. Friday and had a minor fender bender before sliding off the side of the road.

Hall says the cars’ occupants got out to assess the damage when a tractor-trailer hit the same ice, jack-knifed and hit two adults and a child.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1zUk5G5 ) one person was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second adult died after being transported to Magnolia Regional Medical Center. The child is listed in stable condition.

The victims’ names have not been released.
