RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Four more people have died of the flu in North Carolina, bringing the total this season to 170 flu deaths.

Area media outlets report that this season has been one of the deadliest for the flu in the state in years and the number of deaths is now higher than the past two seasons combined.

The number of weekly deaths peaked at 40 around New Year’s and has declined steadily since. This past week four people died.

State officials say that of every six people who have died, five have been 65 or older.
