ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - Athens-Clarke County commissioners are considering a name change for the county auditor.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1ArfoHw ) local officials are scheduled to vote next month on a proposal to rename the Office of the Auditor as the Office of Operational Analysis. Meanwhile, the title of auditor would be changed to “internal auditor.”

A committee suggesting the changes concluded that the auditor’s title and office name are “often misunderstood.”

Changing the county auditor’s title will require amending the Athens-Clarke County charter, meaning commissioners will have to vote on it twice. They’re expected to take up the name changes in March and April.
