MAYBEE, Mich. (AP) - Military officials are offering condolences following the death of a southeastern Michigan Marine whose family says he was killed in a training accident at Camp Pendleton in California.

The Marines say Pfc. Clinton James of Maybee died Monday while attending the School of Infantry (West) as part of his entry level military training. Details of the circumstances of his death weren’t immediately released amid an ongoing investigation.

In a statement Friday, the infantry school’s commander Colonel Christopher Williams says the death “is a loss to our command and the Marine Corps family.”

James enlisted in the Marines in October. Jessica Horton says her step-brother died after the accidental discharge of a weapon during training.

The Monroe News reports James, of Maybee, was a 2008 graduate of Dundee High School.
