SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Authorities are investigating a series of dead animals - several decapitated - found in a Sacramento park over the past two months.

Gina Knepp of Animal Care Services says a beheaded lamb or baby goat was found in a paper bag in Reichmuth Park on Tuesday.

The Sacramento Bee reports (https://bit.ly/1CTtnXr ) the discovery is the fourth in a string of dead creatures in the park.

The first, found Jan. 8, was described in reports as a decapitated goat. Headless chickens were discovered Jan. 28. On Feb. 1, a dead tortoise was found.

The newspaper says the apparent trend initially went unnoticed because the remains were reported to different agencies.

Knepp says she has alerted dispatchers across the city so Animal Care Services will be informed if it happens again.
