FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - More than 158,000 Kentuckians signed up for private health insurance or Medicaid coverage during the state’s health benefit exchange open enrollment period that ended Sunday.

The numbers reported by Gov. Steve Beshear’s office were for the second open enrollment period of the exchange, known as kynect.

Of the 158,685 individuals that enrolled in coverage, 102,830 signed up for either a new health plan or renewed the insurance plan they purchased through kynect last year. The rest enrolled in Medicaid coverage.

The signup period ended at midnight on Feb. 15.
