CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Visitors to the South Carolina coast this weekend can expect delays leaving Charleston on Interstate 26.

Beginning Friday at 8 p.m. and continuing until 5 a.m. Monday, the state Department of Transportation will be closing two of the three westbound lanes of the interstate just outside of Charleston.

The lane closures, on the Charleston side of the I-26 interchange with S.C. Route 7, are to repair an overpass where the concrete has deteriorated.

DOT says motorists can expect extended traffic delays and suggest drivers use alternate routes.

Those routes include using nearby Rivers Ave., using Route 7 to reach I-26 from the West Ashley area or using I-526 if leaving Mount Pleasant.
