NEVADA, Iowa (AP) - Firefighters have rescued a man from a smoke-filled apartment in the central Iowa city of Nevada (nuh-VAY’-duh).

Firetrucks were sent to the scene a little before 10 a.m. Thursday, and firefighters found the man inside an apartment that was emitting black smoke.

The man was taken to Story County Medical Center and later was transferred to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. The Nevada Public Safety Department says his injuries are not considered life-threatening.

The fire cause is being investigated.
