MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - A regional development advocate will be Vermont’s next commissioner of Economic Development.

Gov. Peter Shumlin announced the appointment of Joan Goldstein on Thursday.

Goldstein has served for the past six years as executive director of the Green Mountain Economic Development Corporation, working in northern Windsor and Orange Counties.

Before that she worked as a small business advocate. Goldstein moved to Vermont from New York 10 years ago after spending 20 years working in the financial services industry.

Goldstein will replace Lisa Gosselin, who will leave her post in April to take a job outside state government.
