ROMULUS, Mich. (AP) - Another day of bitter cold is being felt across Michigan and hundreds of schools are shut down.

The National Weather Service says it dropped to 37 below in Clare County, 34 below in Pellston and 32 below in Grayling. The temperature fell to 11 below at Detroit Metropolitan Airport in Romulus, snapping the previous record for the date in Detroit of minus 8 from 1934.

In Flint, a reading of 25 below matched the record low for the city set Jan. 18, 1976 and broke Flint’s record for the date of minus 21 from 1929. Grand Rapids fell to 13 below, matching the record low for the date from 1966.

Near Marquette, it was 26 below. That’s broke the previous record for the date of minus 15 set in 1966.
