BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (AP) - The Illinois High School Association and Special Olympics will team up this year to offer a unified IHSA Bass fishing tournament.

The tournament will be conducted with the 2015 IHSA Bass Fishing State Finals on May 15 and 16 on Carlyle Lake in southern Illinois.

Rules will be similar to those of the state tournament. Eight unified boats from around the state will be represented.

State finals medallions will be awarded to the boats that finish among the top three.

Dave Breen is Special Olympics Illinois CEO and president. He says the idea came out of discussions with IHSA executive director Marty Hickman about how to expand the Special Olympics’ “Project Unify.” The project focuses on building inclusive school communities and camaraderie.
