MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - A combination of freezing rain and sleet is causing traffic troubles in West Tennessee, with several vehicle crashes and road closures reported in the Memphis area.

Officials are warning motorists of wet and icy roads on Friday afternoon because temperatures have remained near or below freezing as rain and sleet falls in the region. Weather officials hope temperatures rise above freezing later Friday, allowing some of that ice to melt.

Memphis International Airport’s website shows that two flights have been diverted to Huntsville, Alabama and another was diverted to Atlanta. Some departures from the airport have been delayed on Friday.

National Weather Service forecasters have issued a winter storm warning for much of the state, including Nashville and Knoxville.
