WHEATON, Ill. (AP) - A former College of DuPage employee is accused of stealing more than $200,000 from the campus radio station.

John Valenta of Wheaton has been charged with felony theft following a 13-month investigation conducted by the State’s Attorney’s Office and College of DuPage. He’s accused of swindling the money while working as a radio engineer for WDCB-FM 90.9, the school’s professionally run jazz station.

Authorities say Valenta submitted fake invoices from his side business between June 2006 and December 2013. They say he billed the school of materials it never received and work he never performed.

His attorney didn’t respond to requests for comment from the Chicago Tribune.

Valenta is scheduled to return to court on March 2. He’s being held on $400,000 bond.
