NEW CUMBERLAND, W.Va. (AP) - A New Cumberland city worker and candidate for City Council is due in court on a felony child pornography charge.

Michael R. Staub is to appear in court on Friday on a charge of distributing and exhibiting material depicting minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. The 36-year-old defendant is being held on $50,000 bond.

The Daily Times of Weirton (https://bit.ly/1vLymEt ) reports that City Solicitor William Kiefer said Staub has been suspended without pay. He said Staub’s future employment with the city will hinge on the outcome of court proceedings.

According to a criminal complaint field in Hancock County Magistrate Court, the West Virginia State Police was tipped that Staub allegedly uploaded images of child pornography.

State police say an analysis of Staub’s computers found hundreds of images of child pornography.
