ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - Ann Arbor has approved plans with DTE Energy Co. for a large solar farm at Ann Arbor Municipal Airport.

The Ann Arbor News reports (https://bit.ly/1zxiXeY ) City Council on Monday approved the roughly 14-acre solar farm that could be expanded in the future.

The city-owned airport is located in Washtenaw County’s Pittsfield Township, just south of the Ann Arbor city limits. The project still requires site plan approval from the township, as well as approvals from the Federal Aviation Administration and the Michigan Department of Transportation.

Under the agreement, Detroit-based DTE would be responsible for paying for the solar panels and their installation and maintenance. The solar farm would be about 1.1 to 1.6 megawatts in its initial phase. Officials say capacity could be increased to up to 2.15 megawatts.
