ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A 66-year-old Canadian truck driver faces seven charges including criminally negligent homicide for the December 2013 crash that killed a New York state trooper on the Thruway.

State police say Gary Blakley of Ridgeway, Ontario, was arrested Tuesday and arraigned in Montgomery County Court. He pleaded not guilty, accompanied by attorney William Martuscello. He was sent to the county jail with no bail.

Blakley was driving a tractor-trailer that rear-ended the state police cruiser of 35-year-old Trooper David Cunniff of Duanesburg shortly after he pulled over a speeding car near Amsterdam. Cunniff died of his injuries.

The truck also hit the other car, injuring the driver.

Other charges against Blakley include aggravated manslaughter, reckless driving, and operating over allowed hours.
