SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say they have arrested the driver of a stolen pickup who tried to run down a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy, who opened fire. Nobody was hurt and the motorist escaped.

The 30-year-old suspect barricaded himself inside a home in the Newhall area of Santa Clarita about 12 hours after the attack on Monday and refused to come out. He was arrested around 10:30 p.m.

Authorities say they were tracking a Ford F-150 that was stolen from a landscaper about 8 a.m. in the same area when the pickup came at the deputy.

The Sheriff’s Department says the deputy avoided the pickup and fired a shot that hit the passenger window. The truck hit a wall and the driver fled.
