AKRON, Ohio (AP) - Jury selection has begun in the trial of a northeast Ohio man charged in the slayings of his ex-girlfriend and their 5-year-old son.

Forty-year-old Daniel Tighe (teye) of Akron has pleaded not guilty to charges of aggravated murder, abuse of a corpse, domestic violence and evidence tampering in Summit County Common Pleas Court. He could face the death penalty if convicted.

Tighe is charged in the 2013 deaths of 31-year-old Wendy Ralston and their son, Peyton.

Tighe became a person of interest in the case in August 2013 after Ralston’s mother found human remains in a wooded area near her daughter’s home and called police. Tighe was arrested that October.

Questioning of jurors from a 150-person pool began Tuesday and is expected to take more than a week.
