FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - Fresno police say a man who threatened to light himself on fire and then ignited a blaze at his estranged girlfriend’s apartment has been taken into custody.

Lt. Joe Gomez says officers responded Monday after the 44-year-old man confronted the woman in her home.

Gomez says the man was uncooperative with officers and poured lighter fluid over his head and body and threatened to set himself on fire.

After he slammed the door on officers, police evacuated nearby apartments.

Gomez says the man cut his hands and arms breaking a window after starting a fire inside the apartment. When he opened the front door, he was taken into custody.

Firefighters put out the blaze, which caused minor damage.

The Fresno Bee reports (https://bit.ly/16eMShv) the man is receiving medical treatment and evaluation.
