MACON, Ga. (AP) - A Macon man has been sentenced after being convicted of shaking his 3-month-old son and causing head injuries.

The Telegraph of Macon reports (https://bit.ly/1DupqYh ) 25-year-old Giovonni Tharpe was convicted of cruelty to children and was sentenced to three years in prison on Monday.

Tharpe has denied the allegations and said the child slipped out of his hands during a bath.

Chief Assistant District Attorney Nancy Scott Malcor has said Tharpe was watching the baby while his mother was at work in March 2014. After the boy’s mother returned home he had seizure-like symptoms and was taken to a hospital. Malcor says Tharpe was told that his story was inconsistent with the boy’s injuries and he admitted to shaking and throwing the baby.
