RENO, Nev. (AP) - A 37-year-old Fallon man originally sentenced to death after he was convicted of murdering and stealing $89 from a Reno cab driver in 1997 has now been sentenced to life in prison without parole.

A Washoe District Court jury unanimously sentenced Shawn Harte Tuesday to life without the possibility of parole. Judge Connie Steinheimer added a second, consecutive life sentence for using a deadly weapon in the killing of John Castro Jr.

Prosecutors say Harte shot Castro once in the back of the head after he and two accomplices arranged for the cabbie to drive them from southeast Reno to Cold Springs north of town.

Harte won an appeal before the Nevada Supreme Court blocking his execution, but the high court upheld the conviction and sent the case back to Washoe County for resentencing.
