SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (AP) - A tired and thin female mountain lion cub has been pulled to safety from a beach in Central California.

The San Luis Obispo Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1Kmt6Or ) authorities got a call that the 6-month-old, 25-pound mountain lion was in the water near a cove Montana de Oro State Park.

California Department of Fish and Wildlife warden Jared Strouss says the mountain lion was lifted from the cove on Monday. The animal was so weak crews didn’t need to tranquilize the animal.

He says rescuers gave the feline fluids and antibiotics. It was taken to a wildlife lab in Sacramento, where she may stay for at least a month before she is released back in Montana de Oro.
