CANTON, Ohio (AP) - Officials say dozens in northeast Ohio are without a home after a fire destroyed an apartment building overnight.

WEWS-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1Kno1Fv ) fire crews were called to the apartment building in Canton at about 1:30 Tuesday morning.

Officials estimate 30 to 40 residents were displaced. The Red Cross was called to assist the tenants, many of whom took shelter from the cold temperatures in their cars.

Fire officials say there were no injuries.

Crews say ice and cold temperatures made fighting the flames more difficult. Officials say one hydrant they tapped was completely frozen.

A city salt truck was also called to the fire, and crews spread salt around the building to keep from slipping.
