TITUSVILLE, Pa. (AP) - Workers at a northwestern Pennsylvania elementary school have called in an exterminator and were scrubbing down restrooms after bed bugs were found there last week.

Titusville Area School District Superintendent Karen Jez tells the Titusville Herald (https://bit.ly/1zDwumB ) that a pest control company was at the Main Street Elementary School on Monday night. Maintenance crews were to be cleaned Tuesday morning before students arrived.

The exterminator will be back in 10 days to make sure the bugs are gone.

The district, about 90 miles north of Pittsburgh, is sending home letters with student because the bugs live around human hosts. As such, it’s likely the bugs were brought to school by a child whose home is also infested.

Jez says the good news is that the bugs are a nuisance, but don’t spread diseases.
