GRANBY, Colo. (AP) - Authorities say an off-duty sheriff’s deputy who was involved in a crash in Grand County has died.

The county’s Office of Emergency Management says emergency crews responded to the crash on U.S. Highway 34 just before 6 a.m. Tuesday and found the deputy critically injured. The deputy, whose name has not been released, died at a hospital about two hours later.

The circumstances of the crash and how many vehicles were involved have not been released.

Grand County EMS Chief Ray Jennings says “these are hard calls to respond to and even harder when you know the person.”

The Colorado State Patrol is investigating, and an autopsy is planned for Wednesday.
